Millions of people throughout the world – particularly those in developing countries – die each year due to chronic kidney disease (CKD) because they do not have access to lifesaving dialysis treatment. Bridge of Life – DaVita Medical MissionsTM (Bridge of Life) brings hope, treatment, education and lasting change by teaching local medical teams in the communities they touch how to care for CKD patients.
Where there was no equipment, lack of education and kidney failure was a death sentence – thanks to Bridge of Life and its supporters – there is now a second chance at life for people with CKD. Bridge of Life volunteers educate, train and empower local doctors, nurses and dietitians in order to create a sustainable change in caring for CKD patients. In addition, Bridge of Life volunteers pre-screen local residents for high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease. This gives members of these communities a chance to increase their knowledge to rebuild their health and their lives. Bridge of Life community educational programs in impoverished areas help people learn about chronic kidney disease and how to treat it, offering them hope for a better tomorrow.
